Democrats for Education Reform DC Names Victor Horton as Interim Executive Director
Seasoned community leader brings decades of experience advocating for educational equity and empowering communities of color
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 27, 2025) – Democrats for Education Reform DC today announced the appointment of Victor Horton as its interim Executive Director, elevating the organization's Deputy Director to lead its mission of advancing educational equity across the District. With extensive experience in community mobilization and educational advocacy, Horton will guide DFER DC's efforts to build a pipeline of education reform champions committed to ensuring all students have access to high-quality public education.

Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Washington, D.C. - Democrats for Education Reform DC, along with its partner Education Reform Now Advocacy and affiliate non-profit Education Reform Now DC, today announces the appointment of Victor Horton as its interim Executive Director. Horton has served as Deputy Director since September 2024.
“Assuming my role as interim Executive Director at such a critical time for our students is both an honor and a profound responsibility,” said Victor Horton. “Every child no matter their background has the right to access high-equality education. I am committed to pursuing evidence-based and community-driven policies that strengthen our public education system and put students and families first.”
Horton brings decades of experience mobilizing communities, empowering Black and Brown leaders to pursue local leadership roles, and transforming educational outcomes for students across the District. Prior to DFER DC, Horton served as Director of Leaders of Color DC and as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in 7E. As Commissioner, he led major community projects, including public library renovations, advocating for equitable school funding, and leading neighborhood development initiatives.
A native Virginian, Horton holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Virginia State University, a Master of Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Master of Education specializing in Public School Leadership from Columbia University.
