Veda Rasheed is a third-generation Washingtonian, mom of two boys, and accomplished attorney. After a bullet flew through her son’s school window, Veda organized an anti-violence movement and has been fighting to make our streets safer ever since.

A Smart Approach to Public Safety

As an accomplished attorney who’s worked for a judge and served in the DC Attorney General’s office, Veda is the best candidate to make our streets safe. Her smart approach to public safety includes:

  • Improving our education system and services to give young people more opportunities to succeed

Education

Veda has the experience to make all our schools excellent. As a mother, a parent leader and MySchool DC Advisory Councilmember, Veda’s vision for excellent schools includes:

  • Prioritizes the safety & well-being of our students by increasing safe passage investments and enhancing mental health support

  • Builds stronger community bonds by making schools community hubs

  • Improves math and literacy instruction

  • Maintain our school spaces and resources

Veda’s vision for economic development in Ward 7 is centered on ensuring everyone is empowered to become architects of their American Dream. Veda’s plan includes:

  • More grocery stores

  • Fighting for liveable wages that reflect the true cost of living

  • Building generational wealth through financial literacy programs, support for local businesses, and homeownership programs

  • Equitable public transportation and access to high-speed internet

Affordable Housing

Veda believes addressing housing affordability isn’t about economics; it’s about preserving the fabric and diversity of our communities. If elected, Veda will fight for:

  • Rent control and tenant protections

  • Tax breaks for long-term Residents

  • Housing voucher program enhancements, expansion of affordable housing units

  • Down payment assistance and home-ownership programs

  • Innovative housing solutions like tiny homes and modular housing
